The Best Places To Stay In Glasgow, Scotland

Recently on our Northern UK trip we were super excited to be able to explore Glasgow, a city with a fascinating history and lively culture. Glasgow is a city that’s always been on our list thanks to having family who were born here.

Of course, every trip to Glasgow needs an amazing place to stay. So we’ve done the scouting and research for you! Below, we’ve put together a guide on the best places to stay in Glasgow, and once you’ve booked a place to stay, you can finalise your Glasgow itinerary.

The Best Areas to Stay in Glasgow

There are so many fantastic neighbourhoods in Glasgow so you’re going to be spoilt for choice. To give you an idea, here’s a quick overview of what they have to offer!

Glasgow city centre is the best place to stay for first-timers. Known for its historic Victorian architecture, this area is incredibly vibrant and you’ll be close to all the city’s main attractions. 

Merchant City is one of Glasgow’s oldest, yet most stylish districts. Here, you’ll find a variety of quirky restaurants, bars, and shops. Finnieston is another of the city’s ‘hip’ neighbourhoods and is considered to be the foodie hub of Glasgow.

Thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and awesome food scene, the West End is another great place to base yourself. Finally, if you want to be out of the city, then Southside is still close, but the accommodation is often much more affordable.

There are other neighbourhoods in Glasgow aside from these, but they are the top choices in our opinion.

The best places to stay in the city centre 

1. Maldron Hotel Glasgow City

If you’re wondering where to stay in Glasgow, then Maldron Hotel Glasgow City is a fantastic option. Thanks to its location along Renfrew Street, you’ll find plenty of notable attractions nearby. 

Not only are the rooms pretty affordable, but they feature lots of amenities including an ensuite bathroom, flat-screen TV, and air conditioning. 

For those who want to relax after a long day of exploring, there’s an on-site bar where you can grab a drink or two. Not only that, but this hotel offers a restaurant and fitness centre so has everything you could need. 

Maldron Hotel Glasgow City is incredibly family-friendly, but it’s also great for those travelling for business, as there are meeting facilities and high-speed WiFi.

2. Dakota Glasgow

Dakota Glasgow is set on West Regent Street and has 83 luxurious rooms on offer, 11 of which are suites. Each one is modern and spacious and features a monsoon shower along with a smart TV and a full Sky HD package.

On-site, there’s the Grill restaurant which serves delicious seasonal dishes, including steak and monkfish curry. There’s also no better way to relax in the evening than heading to Jack’s Bar, which features an outdoor heated terrace. What more could you ask for?

Thanks to the hotel’s location, you’ll also be close to several iconic attractions including the Kelvin Grove Art Gallery & Museum and the Kings Theatre.

If you still weren’t convinced, staying at Dakota Glasgow allows you complimentary access to a nearby gym.

3. Kimpton – Blythswood Square Hotel, an IHG Hotel

This gorgeous 5* hotel is just a short walk from Sauchiehall Street. Famous for its jaw-dropping architecture, the building it’s set in originally dates back to 1823. 

The highlight of staying at Kimpton-Blythswood Square Hotel has to be the facilities. Here, there’s an on-site bar and restaurant which is located in a former ballroom, and the Saloon, where you can enjoy afternoon tea.  

Not only that, but this luxurious hotel also has a spa. Facilities include thermal rooms, saunas, experience showers, and therapy pools.

Each bedroom is modern and spacious, yet the best options have to be the suites. They feature a ton of amenities (including a freestanding bath) and some offer city views.

The best places to stay in Merchant City

4. Ibis Styles Glasgow Centre George Square

This is one of the most affordable places to stay in Merchant City. Ibis Styles Glasgow Centre George Square is a highly-rated hotel that’s just a short walk from Glasgow Central Train Station. 

There are plenty of rooms and all of them feature quirky decor and colours. Interconnected rooms are available, making this a great option for families. 

This funky hotel also has a stylish on-site bar and a restaurant which is perfect for grabbing a quick bite to eat. However, just keep in mind that you’ll be surrounded by some of Glasgow’s best eateries so you’ll want to check them out! 

There’s also a free pool table which you can enjoy, and you’ll benefit from free WiFi. 

5. Native Glasgow

This gorgeous hotel is certainly one of the best places to stay in Glasgow. It’s set in an Edwardian building that used to be the Anchor Line Shipping Company’s headquarters, so naturally its design takes after an ocean liner. 

Boasting original features from 1906, stunning fireplaces, terrazzo flooring, and timber-wall flooring, the beauty of Native Glasgow will take your breath away.

They offer a variety of studios and apartments, with some featuring a balcony and epic city views. These typically sleep two people so are the perfect option for couples! 

If you still weren’t convinced, there are two on-site restaurants at the hotel and there’s an NCP car park nearby if you’re driving. You’ll also have easy access to public transport.

6. Principal Apartments – Merchant City

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Glasgow with more living amenities then check out Principal Apartments – Merchant City. There are several one and two-bedroom apartments on offer and these are found throughout the city (so just check where you’re booking).

The apartments sleep between 2-4 people and all of them are equipped with a modern kitchen, luxurious bathroom, and laundry facilities. You’ll also have free WiFi. 

If you’re after a luxury stay, then check out the penthouse apartment which is located on Hutcheson Street. With a spacious living area, striking city views, and a balcony, this place has so much to offer! 

The great thing about staying at Principal Apartments is the location, as many of them are near the city’s iconic attractions. 

The best places to stay in Finnieston

7. Radisson RED Hotel, Glasgow

Finnieston is the perfect location for foodies, with the Radisson RED Hotel, Glasgow being a great option for accommodation (it’s found along Finnieston Quay). 

Home to the city’s first official rooftop bar, along with a fitness centre, meeting facilities, and an on-site restaurant, this place has so many awesome facilities. It’s also pet-friendly so what’s not to like?

OUIBar + KTCHN is certainly a highlight, as you can grab some delicious food and craft beers here. Better yet, there’s a pool table so you can have some fun! 

When it comes to accommodation, there are plenty of awesome rooms and suites. Many of these offer fantastic views of Glasgow and connected rooms are available for families.

8. Moxy Glasgow SEC

Moxy Glasgow SEC has to be one of the most funky hotels in the city. Located along Finnieston Street, you’ll be surrounded by attractions and eateries. 

With colourful wall murals, neon lights, and quirky decorations, the common areas of this hotel are superb. This includes the on-site restaurant, immersive social spaces, and fitness centre. 

Daily breakfast is also available and you can play billiards at Moxy Glasgow SEC if you’re after some downtime.

There are several room options and these are pretty affordable for Glasgow. No matter whether you’re travelling as a couple or a family, there will be something suitable here. 

Thanks to the hotel’s location, you’ll be close to The SSE Hydro, Kelvingrove Art Gallery, and Glasgow Science Centre. 

9. Courtyard by Marriott Glasgow SEC

Courtyard by Marriott Glasgow SEC is another hotel which is found near The SSE Hydro. It’s also a great place to stay if you want to explore the area of Finnieston.

This eco-friendly hotel has plenty of awesome facilities including a 24/7 fitness centre, business centre, and a restaurant. There’s even a little snack bar and shop, where you can grab something quick if you’re in a rush.

Courtyard by Marriott Glasgow SEC is also pet-friendly so the whole family can come along! Breakfast is available at the property too.

There are 216 rooms at this hotel and each one offers a private bathroom, workspace, and a large flat-screen TV. They typically sleep between 2-4 people. 

The best places to stay in the West End

10. Albion Hotel

Albion Hotel is another fantastic option if you’re wondering where to stay in Glasgow. It’s situated in the city’s vibrant West End, just a short walk from Kelvinbridge Underground Station. 

Not only are rooms here very affordable but you’ll be surrounded by an awesome food scene. The city centre is only a 20-minute walk away too! 

Albion Hotel is set in a grand period townhouse and offers a variety of budget-friendly rooms, sleeping 2-4 people. Each one features plenty of amenities including a private bathroom, free WiFi, and tea/coffee-making facilities. 

If you decide to stay here, you can enjoy a traditional Scottish breakfast at the property. There’s also a car park adjacent to the hotel which is free on weekends. 

11. One Devonshire Gardens a Hotel Du Vin

If you’re a sustainable traveller who’s after a bit of luxury, then One Devonshire Gardens a Hotel Du Vin is the place for you!

This 5* boutique hotel is set along a tree-lined Victorian terrace. With its extensive wine cellars, charming bistro, whisky snug/bar, and in-house wine expert, you’re sure to have a fabulous time here. 

Every room at this gorgeous hotel is individually designed and beautifully decorated. There are 49 rooms and suites in total and many of these have original Victorian features. 

Just be aware that there are no lifts to the bedrooms, so it’s important to contact the hotel if you require an accessible room on the ground floor.

12. Riverside West End Apartment

For those who’d prefer a place of their own, Riverside West End Apartment is a fantastic option! It sleeps four people and features a bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room.

Boasting a private terrace with river views, a spacious living area, and a fully-equipped kitchen, you’ll have everything you could need at Riverside West End Apartment. There’s also a washing machine and a flat-screen TV which includes streaming services. 

If you stay here, you’ll have free WiFi and private parking, as well as access to car and bicycle rental services. Pets are also allowed on the property! 

Although you won’t be in the city centre, you’ll have no problems exploring Glasgow. If you don’t want to walk, there are plenty of bus services in the area. 

The best places to stay in Glasgow Southside 

13. Number 10 Hotel

If you’d prefer to be out of the city centre, then Number 10 Hotel is a great choice. It’s located across the river and overlooks the scenic Queen’s Park. 

This hotel is set in a gorgeous Victorian townhouse with scenic grounds. Each room has been individually decorated and offers free WiFi, an ensuite bathroom, and tea/coffee-making facilities. 

Number 10 Hotel also has a great restaurant which offers a fine dining menu, as well as bar meals and snacks. 

This hotel is just a two-minute walk from the local train station so you’ll have no problem getting into Glasgow’s city centre. It’s also in a great location if you want to visit the football clubs of Celtic and Rangers, and there’s free on-street parking.

14. S.H Apartments

S.H Apartments is another option if you’re wondering where to stay in Glasgow. It’s located along Melville Street, in the city’s South District. 

This property offers a variety of studio units that sleep two people. They are very affordable and feature a private bathroom and kitchen, free WiFi, a table, and a flat-screen TV. 

The rooms also feature colourful lights that change and streaming services (Netflix and Amazon Prime).

The staff here are lovely and you’ll be staying in a great area. Although you’ll be quite a way out from the city centre, you’ll have no problems getting around as the property is located between two train stations; Queens Park and Crosshill. 

15. Sherbrooke Castle Hotel

Finally, there’s the Sherbrooke Castle Hotel. This is one of the best places to stay in Glasgow if you want to escape the hustle and bustle.

First of all, you’ll be staying in a magnificent building crafted in red sandstone. It dates back to the late 1800s and was built by a man named John Morrison.

The rooms at this hotel are beautifully decorated and spacious, and come with plenty of amenities. They typically sleep two people so are perfect for couples, with the Tower Suite being the highlight. 

There’s a bar and restaurant on-site too, where you can enjoy a Scottish breakfast and a 3-course evening meal if you wish.

With luxurious bedrooms, awesome facilities, and a great location, the Sherbrooke Castle Hotel is a fabulous option if you’re wondering where to stay in Glasgow.
